Team playing well

Dear Rams Fans

Thanks to all alumni who contribued to the gift for Coach Bauer who retired this year. The ceremony at opening day was filled with laughs and tears from "Bauer." It was a day he certainly deserved.

The team is at 1-3 but we have been playing well. I have all the confidence in the world that this team will continue to improve as the season progresses. This special group of young men presented me with a signed game ball the day following my first victory as head coach. I am lucky to have this particular group my first year. They are easy to coach, work hard, never complain and are true gentlemen. Thank you boys and all the parents that have kept their sons grounded and respectful.
Play Ball,
CoachPi

Countdown

This past week I worked out in the Florida sun and viewed many ball players taking fungos and bp. They are almost in mid-season form. Don't sit around and be lazy. Tryouts for the Varsity and JV teams begin March 10, 2008. Be Ready!

Core Fitness

In the gym where I have worked out for 27 years, I have often noticed young athletes ignoring the core areas of the lower back and abs. They will spend 45 minutes doing every kind of bench press and arm work, and then finish with 5 minutes of ab work. As you might expect, they wind up with big arms and a big gut.

Over the years I have become more and more convinced that every workout should start with 20 to 30 minutes of intense core work. Then follow that with whatever upper and/or lower body workout you need, but do each set to complete failure.

An excellent resource for core training workouts can be found at the Sport Fitness Hut Blog.

Your own Blog!

Mike, sounds a little funny to congratulate someone for their new blog. Far more proud of what you have done for baseball at Clarkstown North and in Rockland County. You will be a trememdous head coach because you care about these young men and I am sure will teach them life lessons, on and off the field.

Great Site!

Hey Mike, congratulations on your appointment as Head Coach of Clarkstown North. I'm looking forward to your season.
As you know, I'll be following your summer team from Alaska, where we have the Fairbanks Goldpanners. Check them out at PannerBlog as well as the Alaska Baseball League Blog, where you might get some good ideas for your own site. Better yet, join us for the annual Midnight Sun Baseball Game in Fairbanks. The game is held on the summer solstice, it starts at 10:30 p.m., and no artificial lighting is allowed! Photo is the game last year at midnight. Cloud cover in horizon is causing low light, but they play no matter what!

Spring Training

The varsity squad will be traveling to Florida for spring training from March 20th to March 25th, 2008.

Preseason

We are preparing hard for the upcoming season.
